Our council and staff

The goal of our church council and staff is to help foster a friendly, welcoming environment that enables us to achieve our mission and have a positive impact on others. Council and staff members listen to ideas, suggestions and concerns, while developing and implementing a strategic plan and vision for the congregation that aligns with our mission.

Council members

Andrew Tobisch – President
As President of the council, Andrew presides at all meetings of the congregation and the congregational council. He is also the council’s liaison to the Trust Fund committee.

Sean Day – Vice President
As council Vice President, Sean provides assistance to Andrew, council President. He assumes the duties of the President in Andrew’s absence and is the council liaison to the Stewardship team, which looks at ways to get more members involved in church activities, volunteering and active giving.

Jim Johanek – Secretary
As Secretary, Jim keeps the minutes at Council meetings and the congregational meeting. Jim, along with the rest of the council, helps lead the congregation in living our mission. He also helps in setting short- and long-term goals, while encouraging involvement of all members in the life of the church.

Mike McMullenMike McMullen – Treasurer
Mike oversees all financial aspects of the church and is part of the executive committee. He works very closely with our accounting group to ensure financial reporting is accurate and cash management best practices are being followed. Mike closely monitors the church budget and balance sheet to keep the council and the congregation well informed about the financial position and fiscal health of the church.

Jenna works closely with Jill Quigley, Children’s Choir and Praise Band Director; Cassie Tingo, Choir Director; Stephanie Zinkel, Music Director and Organist; and the rest of the team to create an engaging worship experience. This includes developing musical opportunities for everybody from youth through adults — whether you’d like to participate, enjoy listening or are singing along with the hymns and liturgy in the pews.

Celebration and Outreach provides ministry help in different ways to many areas of the church and community. Just a few examples include working with New Community Shelter, DePere Christian Outreach, Woodside Lutheran Home, Lutheran World Relief, Habitat for Humanity, food pantries and more.

Creating a positive impact

St. John logoWe’re a congregation that cares. As Christians, we care about others and strive to have a positive impact on other people’s lives. Whether it’s someone in our congregation, our community or our world, we’re there in times of need, in times of joy and all the times between.

We demonstrate our caring spirit every day. We volunteer. We reach out to charitable organizations.  Whether it’s painting a house, donating food or raising funds to buy fruit trees for others across the globe, we help our neighbors in need. Read more about our people and our congregation »

What’s happening

In person worship opportunity

December 22, 2020

Beginning January 2, 2021

Responsibility for the physical and mental well-being of the congregation is something your Council takes very seriously.  Each month we discuss in depth if it is safe and wise to gather again for in person worship. We make the decision by relying on data, science and the advice and direction of health experts.  Those sources strongly advise that now is not yet the time to again worship as we once did.

So how else might we safely gather?  The answer the Council has come up with is “in small numbers, for spoken liturgy, scripture and Holy Communion as the service is being recorded.”

What does that mean?

It means that a small group (12) people will be invited to gather in the sanctuary as we record the spoken parts of the service. This will primarily take place on Saturday mornings at 10am, but occasionally on Thursday evening.

To facilitate this, we ask the following:

  1. You must sign up ahead by either calling the church office or through this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084caea728a0fd0-service
  2. You must mask while in the building and not congregate inside before or after the service recording.
  3. You attend no more than once a month in order to allow as many different people to participate as possible. (You can have your name put on a wait list in case spots remain open.)
  4. You do not attend if you have any symptoms of illness or have been exposed to someone who is ill or tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days.
